The Walt Disney Company is a diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with five business segments. The five business segments that contribute to The Walt Disney Company’s dominant long standing success are Media Networks, Parks and Resorts, The Walt Disney Studios, Disney Consumer Products, and Disney Interactive. Leading the company as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer is Bob Iger. Bob Iger joined The Walt Disney Company during Disney’s acquisition of ABC Network. Iger worked his way up the ranks succeeding Michael Eisner in 2005. Next in line from CEO, Bob Iger, is Chief Operating Officer, Tom Staggs. Tom Staggs joined The Walt Disney Company in 1990 after leaving an investment banking career with Morgan Stanley Company. The Walt Disney Company leads the trail for all of the other entertainment companies to follow. The core principles that guide The Walt Disney Company were shaped by its founder Walt Disney. After success in the film industry, Walt Disney wanted to create a place where he himself could take his children to have fun for a day. Does the vast amount of media that we filter through our eyes daily effect how we view ourselves? If so, do they accurately portray who we are as humans? As a society, can the amount of advertisements we view daily be a healthy consumption, or seriously harmful? Or are we passively allowing the media to dictate how we think and feel about literally everything that surrounds us, but also more importantly, ourselves? In Lee Monk’s poem â€Å"Under Water,† he writes â€Å"The world would be a better place if girls weren’t pushed from the womb and fed, tabloids, diets, (and) shame.† Boys and girls today are growing up in a generation of photoshopped and airbrushed images of women that are filtered in through their brains as normal from billboards, television, tabloids, and the internet. These sources are encouraging the altered images as glamorous and ideal, leaving advertisements to teach girls and women that the ideal of their gender is to obtain an u nrealistic body image, while at the same time, subtly, or not so subtly devaluing and dehumanizing the female body. With the constant media pressure that surrounds girls and women, females are left with a very narrow definition of what beauty appears to be. Conita Hendrix Confessions St. Augustine In Augustine’s Confessions, he confesses many things of which we are all guilty; the greatest of which is his sadness of not having a relationship with God earlier in his life. He expressed to us that to neglect a relationship with God is far worse than the pity he felt for Dido. In reviewing his life, he had come to examine life and how there are temptations in this world that can keep us distracted. He tells to us how he became aware of this fact; everything is negligible except love for God, and his own guilt at not having found this truth sooner. He cried over Dido’s death because he was moved in his heart for her loss; a death brought about by her love and loss of Aeneas. He wanted to live a more righteous life than he had when he was living against the will of God. He felt that each person, should, above all things, have a relationship with God. I agree with Augustine on his spiritual principles. It is essential in the Christian faith to study the scriptures to gain wisdom and knowledge on how one is to live life. I refer to scriptures from the Holy Bible; scriptures that encourage us to seek knowledge from God. In the book of James 5:1, we are told to seek wisdom from God, not from the books written by men. â€Å"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him,† (Holy Bible) and here we are advised in the book of I Corinthians 3:19-20, â€Å"For the wisdom of this world is folly with God.
